About Karl

I love to run tutoring like a dialogue: I ask questions that lead students to answers, rather than dictating what is wrong and right. This is particularly helpful since everyone has a different way of looking at a problem. I work to uncover and reinforce that innate understanding, rather than imposing other people's ideas on students.

I love talking about math to students. Inspiring understanding is one of the most rewarding experiences, especially when it boosts their confidence. In my experience, many students don't think they're capable when in reality they understand the problem better than they think. Empowering students with renewed confidence is key to educating (and it happens to be my favorite part).

I got started teaching as a graduate student, though I've been tutoring since highschool.

I have been a private tutor for the past seven years. I've worked with half a dozen students in both highschool and college math. Currently, as a Math graduate student, I work both as a professional tutor at my University's Math Help Hub and as a teaching associate where I teach precalculus to undergraduates. This provides me with both a student perspective and a teacher's insight into student difficulties.

My rate depends on the class/topic you want to be tutored in. I tend to charge more for higher/upper division college math, for example.
