About Dudley

I LOVE mathematics, and more importantly, I thoughroughly enjoy teaching it. I am very upbeat, energetic, and I make learning fun.

I've been a high school mathematics teacher for 15 years now. It is my passion.

I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to tailor the lesson specifically to the student and their needs.

I am licensed to teach in Virginia through 2029.

I was a career changer.  I started off working at General Motors on the assembly line.  I went to college when I was 25, graduated when I was 29, and started teaching when I was 30.  I always knew I loved mathematics and I thought what a better way to express that in my profession than to become a math teacher.

I have been a mathematics teacher for 15 years.  I've taught all subjects from middle school math to high school trigonometry.

I have tutored privately for all 15 years.

Also, during Covid, my school district went to virtual teaching for half of this school year and the previous school year.  I learned how to very effecitevly teach through a Google Meet (online virtual setting).  I prefer in person tutoring sessions.  However, if you would virtual sessions, I have a drawing tablet and I can very effectively tutor your child that way.

I like to get to know them a little, learn what they believe their strengths and weaknesses to be.  From there, I specifically tailor the lesson to their needs.  I also like to include a little small talk in their to get to know them.  That way, I feel I can relate to them a little better, and vice versa.

I have worked with students emcompassing all backgrounds.  I've worked with special needs students all the way up to gifted students. I feel I have something to offer each and individual student.

I would say set up an inital tutoring session to ascertain if the teacher/tutor is a good fit for you.

This may sound silly, but I took my children to see a movie for the first time in over a year and it was the most fun we'd had in months.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should sit and think about what facets of math confuse them.  Whether it be solving an equation, simply what the concept of a variable is (that confusing so many students), or exponent properties.  This isn't always possible.  Sometimes the tutor has to figure it out after a session or two.  But, it's a good starting point.

I charge $50 an hour.  I find this to be a median price that is fair to both my clients and myself.
