About Arthi

Hi, my name is Arthi Thyagarajan! I just finished my freshman year at Georgetown University! I am currently on the pre-med track and majoring in Healthcare Management and Policy. Throughout my high school experience, I have taken a variety of STEM courses ranging from cellular physiology, immunology, genetics, AP chemistry, multivariable calculus, differential equations, and quantum physics that have helped me develop my strong skill set I have today. I have experience tutoring high school students in math through Aristotle Circle, Math National Honors Society, and Kumon. I am super enthusiastic about learning and am excited to share my passion for science and STEM subjects with students to make their learning experience equally as fun and rewarding. I am also a dedicated tutor and am willing to put in the extra time and effort so that I can accommodate my students to the best of my abilities.

I am incredibly passionate about teaching and sharing my expertise with students. I find my tutoring work rewarding because of the ability to focus on one person only, and build relationships with them in a much more personal level. I find it great to design a curriculum that meets the student's needs, and the freedom to match my work to my level of desire to work. The overarching gratification is the worthwhile feeling of watching and measuring the student's progress, and to feel that in a way I have contributed to the person's future success and well-being.

About the lesson

When working with a student who needs basic improvement skills, I try to actively teach study skills and emphasize the importance of understanding a topic rather than teaching it for the sake of getting to the answer. I often times ask students to explain back to me the steps that were required to solve the problem, while simultaneously looking for opportunities to encourage and affirm the student's thought process. I additionally always come prepared with additional resources/work problems/conceptual activities to further inculcate the correct though process in my tutees. I try to make the material more relevant to my tutee's life by presenting ideas in a different perspective than they might typically be presented in class.

I have worked with students ranging from elementary to middle to high school. I have also worked with students who have learning disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia.
