About Savanna

I'm a junior engineering major at Harvey Mudd College. I have been tutoring math and reviewing essays off and on since high school.

After transitioning to college and doing some occasional college math tutoring and essay review, I figured it was time to branch out!

I really enjoy the 'aha!' moments that students get when a concept clicks!

I also enjoy helping students learn to convey their ideas in an impactful way!

I understand the struggle of trying to understand new math concepts and that sometimes it just takes a different perspective on the material in order to better understand it!

I have taken math all the way up to Differential Equations, including Calculus 3, Linear Algebra, AP Calculus A&B, and AP Statistics, pre-Calculus, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

I am most comfortable teaching AP Calculus BC and below!

I have taken multiple essay based college courses classes and have not scored below a B on any of the essays that I have written nor below a B in any essay based class ever!

About the lesson

For math tutoring:

I'll ask for the student's math background and current math course prior to meeting. When we first meet I will have the student or their parent explain in their own words what they need help in, then either have them walk me through one of their current assignments and or give the student different math problems to identify problem areas. From there, I will establish a light curriculum and help the student set goals whether that's to improve their grades or confidence to work through a problem without help!

For essay editing:

I will walk through your essay step-by-step, questioning specific grammar, phrasing, and paragraph structure. If your essay is a response to literature in all likelihood I will not have read your book, so please make sure that you understand the book before you sign up for a review!

I have mainly tutored high school aged kids, but am open to tutoring really focused middle school and elementary school kids!

Make sure you find someone who is able to explain concepts in ways you understand and doesn't make you feel bad for not understanding the material!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-Am I having difficulty understanding what the problem is asking or am I having difficulty getting the right answer?

- Did I understand what was just taught to me?

- Could I benefit from having the information rexplained to me by someone else?

- Are other people having difficulties with this concept as well?
