About Jeff
I provide meaningful examples to help students understand why a particular method for solving math problems or physics problems works, not just an algorithm to be memorized that cannot be used in other situations.
I have been a physics, chemistry, and math teacher for 34 years. I continue to teach because I love helping my students truly understand how math and science can be used to better understand how the Universe works.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and I have been teaching physics, chemistry, and mathematics since 1985. I have experience in public, private, and charter schools in California, Massachusetts, Maine, and Arizona.

To understand what a new student needs, I will first assess their understanding of topics they have already completed in their current course work. This can usually be done in a one hour session or less. I will ask a new student to answer a few questions and use their responses to focus in on where we need to begin to make sure the foundations are there to learn new material.

My hourly charge for tutoring is $30 if the location is within 5 miles of my home and $40 if more than 5 miles from my home.
