About Christina

Hi, my name is Christina. I hope your experience with me will help both of us.

Here are a few things about me, and the way I teach:

-Passionate about teaching various levels of math

Being in a public high school there are many opportunities to work with student, so that is where my interest began.

For my school's National Honor Scoiety, there were weekly tutoring sessions that I went to. This is where most of my work comes from. As a child, I also helped to teach my siblings as well.

About the lesson

I know people work differently, so in terms of that process I will try to accomodate. In the process of working with a new student, I would look to get to know them better. For learning purposes, I would like to see their strengths and weaknesses in order to help them. Some people are visual learners, others may not be. For me when I don't understand something, I'll reach out to teachers who will allow me to understand a concept better. If a student doesn't understand a concept, I like to provide different explanations. I feel like with a growing mindset, a lot of students have particular ways to remember knowledge, and I want to be able to help them stick to a solid technique, and help develop their learning in that way.

I've worked with elementary students from the youngest- 5th grade up to high school students in 9th grade.

This goes without saying, no matter what age you are, there's always room for improvement. Even though my certifications are not as advanced, I believe I can help many students with their learning. One piece of advice I would give my student is to be patient. As long as you put in the work and effort to learn and make it fun, there will be improvement and insight gained. Math doesn't have to be boring. I hope that for students who give me the chance to help them along the way, they do not give up. Always be positive and optimistic:)

I like teaching in general especially teaching younger students. I helped tutor a 9th grader in gt Algebra 2 because she really struggled in understanding the concepts in that class. I would go in every single week and help her with ideas that she had trouble with. One day after my tennis practice, I was waiting for my ride to come, her mom dropped her off to see a basketball game. At that moment, she thanked me for teaching her and allowing her daughter's grade to improve by 2 letters. That conversation brightened up my mood that day. I was given a smile that was irreplaceable, and indescribable. A very fond experience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Many math questions can be ambigious. If a student needed help, I believe they should think about where and what they are struggling in, pushing those strengths aside, and focusing on those concepts they are stuggling with. Also for the teacher, I feel like they need to understand the student's level of math to be able to help them. But, questions don't hurt. The more questions they ask, the better. That's how learning works.

I would charge from $25 to $40 per hour depending on the level of math being taught, but if you have any issues I will gladly make modifications.
