I encourage students to learn and discover the key concepts they're struggling with on their own. Rather than trying to make them approach the problem the way I would, i would instead try to ask them questions that would help them get there in their own way.
I have worked with college students as well as middle and high school students. My last job was working for a family of 2 kids in New York. I tutored one of the kids from 5th grade through the end of high school and the other from 10th grade through the end of high school.
