About Ted

As an engineer, I use key math and science concepts every day at work. This not only keeps the subjects fresh in my mind, but also allows me to connect ideas to real-world examples.

When I start working with a new student, I like to take some time to get to know about them and their interests. Then I try to explain the concepts we are working on using examples that will be interesting and make the learning process more enjoyable.

My favorite part of learning something new is always that "Aha!" moment when everything clicks and it all starts to make sense. I loved that feeling all through school, and even to this day I get the same satisfaction from mastering something new.

My favorite part of tutoring is helping guide students to that same great feeling of understanding a new concept. My goal isn't just to get you to the right answer, but to get you that "Aha!" moment and the confidence that you truly understand the subject and can do it on your own.

I began teaching through a volunteer mentorship program in Chicago. I loved feeling like I was making a positive impact and helping people learn, so I wanted to expand and help more students advance their learning.

In my day-to-day work as an aerospace engineer, I routinely apply advanced math and science concepts in the design of new products.

In May 2021, I graduated summa cum laude from Illinois Institute of Technology with a master's degree in aerospace engineering. I retained a high GPA and performed independent research while also juggling being a varsity athlete. Prior to that, I graduated high school with a 4.32 weighted GPA and scored a 36 on the ACT, so I also feel comfortable helping students prep for standardized testing.

About the lesson

Most of my experience has come working with high school students, and I have worked with students across the board within that age range. I have helped struggling students improve their grades and gain confidence in their abilities, and I have worked with students taking advanced classes who just needed a little boost to get over the edge.
