About Maria
Hi! My name is Maria and I graduated in 2019 from NYU with a degree in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry, Public Health, and Psychology. Since graduating college, I have applied to and been accepted to medical school, which I will be starting in Fall 2020. I began privately tutoring in 2018, teaching elementary and middle school-aged children math, reading, writing, and science, and also have experience in standardized test prep.
I love helping students realize their full academic potential and motivating them to continue finding joy in learning.
I spent approximately a year and a half tutoring 2 children that lived in my apartment building. I also spent approximately 6 months tutoring English online to children abroad.

Generally, I like to first get a sense of where the student is at and the concepts that they need help with. From there, I think it also helps to spend some time getting to know students, particularly younger students, so I have a sense of different approaches I can take in how I instruct that would be most beneficial to the student. From there, we can figure out specific goals that we would like to meet, such as, mastering a specific concept.
I have mainly worked with elementary and middle school students. I also have experience working with children that have ADD, ADHD, and other behavioral/social impediments.
