About James

-My business and I offer tutoring that is geared to teach a student how to be a problems solver. This you take with you for a lifetime.

-I have been teaching math and science in various educational systems for 30 years, thus experience, experience, experience.

-I have my own site with an abundance of academic material available to my students at: YourEducationPlus.com

-I run my own private laboratory and observatory, so I don't just teach, I do. Pictures of projects are on my site.

-Nothing beats working with a person one-to-one and seeing their improvement. This is very enriching.

-Good students are a pleasant challenge even to the instructor and this fosters mutual improvement. Because I this, I too am better than I was years ago. Thx kids.

-Since I have been tutoring for so long, many of my former students have families of their own and we still keep in touch. This says it all...

Oddly enough, I started tutoring my fellow high school football players in algebra and geometry. This was literally locker room tutoring but they got to stay on the team by getting ggod grades.

About the lesson

-Find their goals, target, purpose of lessons.

-Determine what they need in terms of content and level.

-Determine lesson length, time, payment method.

-Arrange to explain material and do practice WITH the student. This include student keeping the notes and exercises that I create with the student plus addition notes that I have on file.

-Online lessons are preferred because I can provide the student with a pdf copy of notes and video of our session if desired.

Wow! This varies. I have had student from elementary to university. Gifted and not so gifted. Motivated and not so... I have even had a few that I home schooled completely.

Use every means at your disposal to see how knowledgable and dedicated the teacher is. There are too many fly-by-night wanna-bees out there looking to make a quick dollar. Do NOT go for young college students. They simply do not have the expertise. If the price is low so is the product.

With one student, I helped him design a car body from scratch. We 3D printed it and then built a wind tunnel to test it in (see pic). He ended up getting a FULL university scholarship and he is now finishing his degree. He is a key member of the auto club at the university where they are building the prototype that he designed while we were together. As a result of his design, the school has received a HUGE grant to upgrade its own wind tunnel facility...

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-Do you really want to learn? Sound simple but it is not.

-Do you have realistic goals? If you are getting a D now, do not expect an A by next week.

-Are you willing to put in what it takes to succeed? This can be time, money, etc.

-Do NOT be scared to ask questions. The dumbest question is the one that you never ask because you were too scared.

Because I teach students of different ages and at different levels, pricing varies. Pricing also reflects, whether or not we are talking about a one-time lesson or a more long term arrangement. Obviously a package of lessons ends up being less expensive per lesson.
