About Alex

My past credentials of math and STEM include numerous different honors, grades, and test scores as far back as high school. I scored a 650/800 on the math portion of the SAT during my time in high school. I was also a member of the National Honors Society, ending my high school career with a 3.718 GPA. I have tutored extensively throughout that time as well, giving help to students in early-level math courses, as well as students with learning disabilities. During my college career, I was awarded the Presidential and Dean's scholarships for the duration of my time at the University of New Haven. I was placed on the Dean's List for my high college GPA in the Spring and Fall semesters of 2020. I was also inducted into the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' international honors society, and assumed the position of secretary for the society. As far as my mathematical grades, I scored a B grade in calculus 1, a pass grade in calculus 2 and 3 and in discrete mathematics, an A in differential equations, and a B in engineering applied mathematics.

What I love about tutoring is the Aha moment that students get when reaching a realization. I remember how good it felt when I would have those moments as a kid, and wouldn't be where I am today without those very moments that I reached with some help. I want to help others get to that point and do brilliant things in their future.

I am a current senior at the University of New Haven studying electrical engineering. I have taken numerous advanced level math courses, including calculus 1, 2, and 3, differential equations, and engineering applied math. I received a 650/800 score on the Math SAT in June 2018, placing me in the 85th percentile of all math test takers for that year.

About the lesson

My personal approach to tutoring, now and in the past, is taking every problem one step at a time, breaking it down until each step is simple enough for the other person to understand. I like to take the person's interests and personalities into account, incorporating them into the way I teach in order to relate the problem at hand to things familiar to the person. In the past, this has helped students understand and work through problems with figures and variables that they know.
