About Susan

I am a tactile and visual teacher. Whenever possible is draw pictures and use a variety of colors. I am available most days. My former students had the highest STAAR passing rate for Geometry in the school where I taught

I love love love teaching teenagers! I chose to become a math teacher later in life and taught for 20 years. That decision was very well thought out and very intentional. So because I have the enthusiasm and looking forward to tutoring teens and watching their "light bulb" go on when they "get it".

I needed to change careers. It was during the time my company was making some major changes in their structure. So I took a long look at what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I did not have my college degree yet so I chose to get a math degree with a minor in education. I was very happy with my choice.

I taught math for 20 years. During that time I was trained by Princeton review to teach geometry from their books. Plus I lead several in service on how to use algebra tiles. I also attended five years of the Regional Math/Science Collaborative for the San Angelo region. I s raved on 5 different TEA teacher advisory committees for the TAAKS and STAAR algebra I and geometry.

About the lesson

First ask if they like math. This helps me gauge the attitude of the student and so I know which way to approach the student. Second I have them take out their homework and I take a look at it. This gives me how much the student has attempted on their own. Once I know where the student is as far as attitude and actual subject matter and their drive to complete the task
