About Henry

I allow the student to think, not giving them the answer, but helping them to come to the right answer in order to learn. In addition, I ask students how they think and in what ways and enviroments do they learn the best in order to help them in a way tailored to their own needs.

I enjoy working with teens and kids becuase I remember being in their place struggling in certain things, and I wish I had the accesibilty to a personal tutor.

I started teaching at the Violence Intervention Program in Downtown LA as a volunteer. I tutored their 4-5 hours a week to unpriveledged kids where I learned my passion for teaching.

I recently graduated high school at Harvard Westlake, a top school in the nation. I have many teachers that taught me in personal sessions which allowed me to understand how they do tutor and their tactics. I completed one of the highest math courses at my high school, and the way I was taught helped me to remember all previous maths. In addition, I am extremely resourceful with the internet which allows me to help the student in numerous other ways with extra resources to practice and learn. I am attending the University of Chicago next year where I hope I continue my passion for teaching whether it is online or in person.

About the lesson

I start by introducing myself and having the student introduce themselves to me. I ask about their hobbies and other aspects about their lives which allows us to become more comfortable with eachother. After a bit of introduction, I talk to them about the subject they are being tutored in. I ask specifics about what they struggle in and what they excell in. This helps me evaluate the way they think and learn allowing me to figure out the best way to start tutoring them.

I have mainly worked with kids around the ages 12-15. However, I have taught kids my same age at 18 and kids as young as 8.

I would try to contact the teacher in advance and ask what kind of experience they have. I would confirm that the teacher knows what you are trying to learn or reinforce. I would talk to the teacher in advance and make sure you are comfortable with them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I recommend students to have thought through the general idea of what they would like to learn or reinforce. I advize students to maybe have specific problems or examples of questions in the area of subject they would like to learn.
