About Celine

I work very closely with students to asses their interests to make sure that we are engaging with content that is culturally relevant and exciting for them.

I love getting students excited about learning! The moment we go from cofusion and acclimating to the process to working in a rythm and information starting to click is what I live for.

Throughout high school I was always offering peers help when I could, but I really became passionate about teaching after working with City Year and having the privilege to watch a group of sixth graders grow socially and academically in the span of a year.

I tutored and lead after school instruction at a middle school in Los Angeles for one year with Americorps, have experience designing curriculum, teaching essay writing, teaching math as well as behavior and time management strategies. I have experienc working with students who havd ADD and Dyslexia. I also taught adult literacy and GRE tutoring for a summer.

For new students, I generally start by interviewing them and getting to know them based off of their interests and what might be good launching points to get us excited about learning! I try to assess where they are and what their academic anxieties are as well.

Learning "challanged" students of color at an under resourced school, and adult immigrants to the United States.

I would say to make sure you find someone you feel you can connect with on multiple levels! So much more learning happens when there is a personal connection.

One of my students who was so shy at the beginning of the year grew so much confidence and skill throughout our sessions that she was raising her hand to every math question by the end of the school year.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When was the last time I felt confused in class? Did I feel like I could say something? What parts of school do I like? What parts of school am I good at that I like? What about parts that I'm bad at but I still like? Why?
