About Tamika

Greetings! I am an experienced teacher and tutor, having taught professionally for the last 15 years. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's degreee in Special Education, and a specialist's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

I believe every child is born with a unique gift, knowledge, and the ability to succeed. It is our job as educators to unleash that potential in a positive way! Often times, our students lack the belief in themselves that they can achieve academically, especially when things get tough. My goal is to not only increase their student performance, but to also increase their confidence and passion for learning.

I love helping my students gain the skills necessary to move to the next level and I understand that it takes a village to empower these young minds. I hope to have the opportunity to work with your child. Thank you for your consideration!

I have always wanted to work with students with behavioral disorders, initially wanting to work in a juvenile detention center. However, I came across a school that focused on emotional and behavioral support. I was hired and have been teaching ever since!

I have been teaching professionally for the past 15 years. I have taught middle grades in all subject areas. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's degree in Special Education, and a specialist's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have a passion for working with children and helping them to achieve success.

About the lesson

I would have a conversation to determine areas of need. If agreed upon with the parent, I would give a pre-assessment to determine a student's current level. I would then work to increase their performance using relevant materials and activities.

I have worked with elementary and middle grades students, including students with disabilities.

I would tell the student to be open and honest about their current situation and be willing to work hard to improve. I would tell them to search for a tutor that best fits their needs and to believe that they can achieve!

I volunteered with my daughter's school to provide services to a school in Jamaica. We painted murals and helped to beautify the school grounds. The students lacked adequate shelter and resources, but were very grateful. It is an event that I will always remember.

Do I perform well on assessments?

Do I have good organizational skills?

Do I have good attendance?

Do I have good penmanship?

Am I willing to put in the work to succeed?
