About Alec

Hi! I am an incoming freshmen at the University of Wisconsin - Madison that is planning on majoring in Biology. I really enjoy helping students with their own academics and seeing them succeed. Based on my own experience, it takes a lot of patience to understand some concepts, and I am willing to keep that same patience when it comes to your academic success as well!

I enjoy seeing students work towards a specific problem until they eventually have that "Aha!" moment and start to understand the concept they are having trouble with. Personally, I have had many of these moments and it is extremely satisfying to think of a concept that was once "impossible" to now be super easy!

I got starting teaching at my middle schools and highschool. Helping other students learn has always been something that has made me happy. This is my first time moving online to teach and I am excited to see how it goes!

I have scored a 4.0 GPA at my highschool taking Advanced Placement courses in all four core subjects and Spanish as well. I have taken courses up to AP English Language and Composition; AP Biology; AP Physics and Precalculus; AP World History, AP Psychology, and AP Government; and AP Spanish Language and Culture.

I have also had experience in academic competitions such as DECA and Academic Decathlon.

About the lesson

First, I like to see your own thinking and then work off that to help a student understand their specific problem. Everyone has their different ways of thinking. My goal is not to teach you my thinking, but to help you with your own!

I have worked with students at the middle school and highschool level. Among these students, I have worked to help people trying to get C's, B's, or straight A's. So no matter how "bad" you are at a certain subject, I am willing to help!

I would say that you would most importantly want to focus on the person, not their academic rigor. I know plenty of teachers that are extremely smart, but do not have the patience to teach students. I would look for someone that you could get along with and that would have the patience to help you throught whatever concept you are struggling with.

Most recently, the Environmental Club within my highschool has created a garden that I have helped a tremendous amount with. Incorporating sustainable living practices and the math I learned in school to create the garden was something that was very fullfilling and enjoyable.

"What am I trying to get out of hiring a teacher?"

"What is my academic goal?"

"Which subjects do I need help with?"
