About Nikki

I am a certified high school math teacher with years of experience tutoring both high school and college mathematics. I absolutely love teaching, and the ability to work one-on-one with students in a tutoring setting is the best. It allows me to take the time to understand and address my students' individual needs in a way that simlpy can't be done in a classroom.

I *love* math. I think it is just the coolest, most fun thing in the world, and I really believe I can help each and every student that comes to me understand and feel comfortable with whatever level of math they're striving to learn. I have never failed to raise a students' grades and comfort level in the 5 years I have been tutoring. If you think you "can't do math," I am here to show you you CAN.

About the lesson

I typically spend the first half of our first session getting to know my students as people (what do they like to do, what are their goals, just to get a sense for who I'm working with) as well as assessing their math skills. Each student needs something different from me, and the most important thing for student success is my ability to understand their needs, so it's critical I spend some time building a raport and learning about their strengths and needs.

I have worked with students from all backgrounds, from middle school pre-algebra students all the way up to college abstract algebra students. I have taught algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonomotry, statistics, calculus 1 and 2, linear algebra, and abstract algebra. I have worked with students who just needed a little direction and focus, and students who needed concentrated remedial help to get up to speed in their current subject. I have also worked with some special needs students.

Find a teacher you communicate well with. All math teachers know how to DO math, but the key to a successful learning relationship is for the teacher to be able to TALK about math in a way that the student can understand. Communication is everything in teaching and learning, even when it comes to numbers.

-When does math make the most sense to me?

-What helps me make connections the most? (For some students this is a visual aid, a worked example, being asked prompting questions, etc...)

While my prices are negotiable, I typicall charge $60/ hour for basic high school work (Alg 1, 2, and Geometry); $70/ hour for advanced high school work (Trigonometry, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Physics, Statitistics); and $80/hour for college work.
