About Julia
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Spanish Language from the University of Virginia, I have been a middle school math teacher for 6 years. I have taught and tutored a wide range of courses, from traditional 5th grade math to Honors Geometry and Algebra II. In May 2021, I graduated with my Masters of Teaching in Secondary Education degree. Over the years I have worked with a variety of students, including students who have diagnosed dyslexia and dyscalculia.
As a teacher and tutor, I believe in always treating my students with patience and kindness. I try to create an environment in which students know that I have high expectations for their potential, while also making them feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. I believe that students' math skills only truly improve when they understand the "why" behind the "what" of their problem solving. I emphasize leading my students to discover methods that make sense to them, rather than telling them steps to memorize. There is joy and pride to be found in problem solving!
I have been teaching and tutoring middle school mathematics, including Accelerated Geometry, for 6 years. I also recently graduated with my Masters of Arts in Teaching for Secondary Mathematics.

Over the years I have worked with a variety of students, including students who have diagnoses of dyslexia and dyscalculia.
