About Tom

I was always interested in the world of economics, and ended up getting my BA in the department of economics in University of California, Berkeley. I graduated with excellent grades, and I was finding my studies very interesting. After graduating, I started working in a financial company named Balfur Investments as a financial advisor.

I started as a student, originally for free. As I was a student with good grades, my friends always wanted me to teach them concepts and material that they were struggling with. As a friend, I never wanted, nor expected anything in return. After a while friends of friends started to hear about me and were asking me to help them as well, and that is where I started.

I graduated from University of California, Berkeley, and after that joined a financial company as a financial advisor.

About the lesson

I always start with a short self introduction (it is in the student's decision to decide if he/she wants to introduce themselves or not). Other than that, I would say that every new student that I meet is a different person, and I will usually sense the direction in which I should be heading (whether it is straight to the business, deeper introduction, etc).

I was working with every type of students. From really lazy people, to well organized people who were having difficulties understanding some concepts/formulas/ideas behind models etc.

The best advise I can give is to economise what you are paying for. If the teacher doesn't seem to be really knowing what they are talking about, then do not hesitate to search for a new teacher (even if sometimes it might be a professor that gives you a lecture).

Other that, I enjoy puzzles and sports.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should be trying to solve things alone first in order to really find out what is it that they are struggling with. That way they will be able to get the most efficient help from a teacher by asking the right questions and focusing on them. Otherwise, students may find themselves receiving explanations of things that they are already familiar with.
