About Kasonya

I learned to love math through interactions with a teacher who made it so clear to me. Now I have the passion and charisma to help students understand that, with the right learning tools and environment, they too can meet their goals in mathematics.

I hold a Master of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Mississippi State University (MSU) and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). I have taught in the public and private sectors for over 20 years. My students always improve significantly. I have helped students improve their academic scores and standardized testing scores. Some have gone on to college on full academic or ACT scholarships. I tutor middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, and pre-calculus.

I enjoy helping students build their confidence. Seeing the light come on in their eyes or hearing understanding in their voices makes all my efforts worth it. Helping my students understand that they can succeed in mathematics is what keeps me coming back, even though I am technically retired.

My first teaching jobs were tutoring college algebra at the college I attended. My first time teaching in a classroom was at a local high school when I was in graduate school .

About the lesson

Build rapport by asking questions and offering encouraging responses to a student's answers. I would take note of things that the student seemed particularly interested in and use those things as examples during our sessions.

I have worked with elementary through college aged students. Some were failing, some just wanted to have a better understanding, and others wanted a stronger A in their class.

Be prepared to tell me where your weakness lies or supply me with an assessment that you have already taken.

My family and I had a game day. We made and ate lots of fun party foods and played tons of "get up and move" games. We laughed so hard that our hearts kept smiling for days!
