About William

I have been tutoring since 2000 and have helped hundreds of students learn math, physics, and prepare for the ACT and SAT exams. Math didn't always come easy for me. I know the struggle to understand mathematics and know easy it is to get frustrated. I am patient and able to help you work through even the hardest problems. There is no problem to hard (or easy) nor any question too dumb that I will not help you answer.

I love tutoring. I enjoy watching my students grow to be successful in math (and perhaps even begin to see the beauty in it). Math is an amazing subject and I really appreciate the opportunity to share the wonder it hides. Helping my students be successful and gain mastery over this difficult subject brings me great satisfaction.

When I was in Algebra 2 at Saddleback College (the community college in my area), I began visiting the tutoring center in search of help. I really enjoyed the help I received there and wanted to start helping people myself. I took the necessary classes and began tutoring. Before long, I started tutoring professionally and began tutoring full time in 2003.

I am a graduate of the University of California at Irvine. I hold a Bachelor's of Mathematics. In 1999, I began and completed the tutoring courses at Saddleback College, this was a year long course designed to train and provide opportunity for individuals to tutor in their subject of expertise. Since 2000, I have tutored professionally full time, and have tutored 100s of students, some of them from junior high through college.

About the lesson

First meetings can be nervous for both tutor and student. I work on making sure the student is comfortable and I tell them they can work as slow or as fast as they need to, that there are no dumb questions, and there is not much that I have not seen.

I have worked with all kinds of students, but mostly those that struggle with math. I have also struggled with math, I know what it's like to be frustrated or stymied by a topic. I have worked with incredibly bright 6th graders, unsure college engineering majors, those who struggle to pay attention, and those who believe they have no hope of passing.

Find someone who is comfortable with the material you are working on. It is sometimes necessary for a teacher or tutor to need to review a few things before a session, but the material should be known to the tutor. The tutor should also look for someone who is patient and can explain things in a few ways if necessary.

1 hour sessions are 75$. I do offer discounts for self sustained college students, active military, and those with demonstrated need.
