About Amy

I explain lessons through step-by-step explanations and examples. Learning solely from in-class lectures or textbook reading can make learning difficult, but by providing general guides and working out examples together, I aim to help my students become confident to solve problems on their own. I want my students to become experts in the area they’re studying and go beyond simply understanding the material to the extent that they’re able to teach others as well. My main goal is not just to help my students improve in one subject, but to help them improve overall by improving their study habits and techniques.

About Me:

I am currently a high school graduate going into the pharmacy program at Chapman University.

Qualifications:

Graduated with a 4.42 GPA

SAT Score of 1510 - National Merit Commended Scholar

Took & Passed 5 AP Exams - AP Scholar with Distinction

SAC CAP Student (as a high school student, also passed 9 college courses at Santa Ana College)

I often helped my classmates with classwork and homework problems. In my junior year of high school, I joined a club where we volunteered to peer tutor other students.

About the lesson

I start by getting to know what the student’s strengths and weaknesses are, how they prefer to study, what their priorities are, what they’re currently working on, etc. I like to work on their immediate problems first, working with them through their current homework problems and exercises to get an idea of what concepts they’re struggling with. Then, I’ll start to explain the concepts they struggle with and recommend study tips to help them get past similar confusions in the future.

If the student has a book that they’re already working with, I will research the book and work with them according to the book.

If the student is just studying for an upcoming test, I will help them write study guides and go over practice tests.

I have worked with elementary students and high school students.
