About John
After a successful career in sales, I now tutor in 3 specific areas that are personal passions of mine, History/Social Sciences, Literature and Guitar.
I am patient with students but do set expectations based on the shared goals of the students and their caregivers. I like to laugh and enjoy the growth of students as they realize their own potential. I use humor to illustrate complex situations and seek to instill values of hard work, setting and achieving goals.
Specific to the guitar, I focus on performance. While I do cover basic music theory, I find it much more important for the student, especially ones new to the guitar, to be able to start performing the style of music they like as soon as possible. I have found this creates a much more satisfied client who will drive themselves forward in the learning process. I have over 30 years of experience with the guitar, ranging from studio session work in LA to performances in a host of different venues, both as a solo artist and as a band member.
I have many different strategies I use with students who are struggling with subject matter and find ways for the student to "connect the dots" and realize they can control their own destiny.
