About Caroline

Hi,

My name is Caroline and I am looking to become a tutor this summer as a remote job. I just finished my first year at Harvard, and am planning on majoring in economics. I am a driven and hard working student, and graduated Cum Laude from highschool. I think I would be a great tutor because I love working with and helping people. Throughout highschool and college, I have faced many academic challenges that I know I would not overcome had I not had extra help, and I believe everyone deserves these opportunities. I am a patient and understanding person, and will take as much time as it needs to help someone understand a problem and concept.

I am a hardworking student who has often had to seek help from teachers and other peers. Through working with them, I have figured out what works best when trying to help someone understand a problem, whether it be using visualization to help the student see the problem different, or asking the student to try and explain the problem first by themselves. In high school, I was a peer tutor for pre - calculus.

About the lesson

I usually ask them what is the thing they most do not understand and then go from there. I think the best way to to help a student is by introducing them to the concept more broadly first. Then, going over specific technical things that relate to the bigger concept. This allows the student to understand why the problem they are doing is important, and then also also give them the skills and tools to be able to solve the problem.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would advise students to try the problem on their own first, and try it in different ways. I would also tell the student to come back to the problem later at another time to see if that helps to see the problem differently.
