About Sanna

I have a passion for science and math, specifically in the areas of physiology and biology. I love learning about the capabilities that humans and animals have at both the micro and macro level, and teaching that information to others. I have a Bachelor's in Science in Human Physiology from Gonzaga University.

I have two years of experience as a teaching assistant in anatomy and physiology labs. I assisted in teaching during the weekly labs as well as supporting students in their studies and coursework. Additionally, I have four years of experience mentoring elementary youth in an underprivileged neighborhood in Spokane, WA. I mentored and led an afterschool program that assisted young people in their social and academic experiences, while building intentional and authentic relationships with our youth.

In my tutoring, I emphasize meeting each student where they are at while challenging them to be problem solvers and critical thinkers. I believe the best way to help students become successful in their studies is helping them cultivate the skills necessary to be strong and independent learners. I would love the opportunity to get to know your students and make science and math fun! Education of our young people is so important for the success of the individual and the world, and I hope I can be a part of this for your student.

I love working with youth and being a source of support and tutoring for them. I think school and learning as a great potential for all students to find passion in specific subjects and I love helping students find their "spark" in school and helping them solve problems.

I started teaching in college when I got involved in a mentoring program in the neighboring elementary school. I grew a passion for science and math as well as working with youth and decided to integrate the two into tutoring.

I have two years experience as a teaching assistant in anatomy and physiology labs. I have a BS in human physiology (chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, physics, physiology, anatomy, exercise physiology, environmental physiology, aging).

I also have 1 year research experience as an undergraduate student researcher where I was an American Physiological Society fellow at Colorado State University in 2019, and the principal student investigator of a clinical research project at Gonzaga University in 2018-2019.

I also have 4 years of mentoring/tutoring experience with underprivileged elementary youth. I mentored students in academics as well as social skills and interactions to better provide support for students as they transition into higher education.

About the lesson

First, I will spend 1-2 sessions getting to know the student and assessing their level of understanding for the concepts. I will ask them if they have any homework problems they need help with and also see the curriculum for concepts learned in class. I will also assess their outcome goals (if they or their parents have any) and build a foundational tutoring curriculum to meet those needs. After, I will spend 1-3 sessions per topic that the student is struggling with, going over essential topics and assisting them in solving the problems and topics they struggle most with. This will include making flow charts, note cards, videos, and going through methods for easy problem solving. I also like to talk about study strategies with the student.

I have worked with college-level anatomy nursing and pre-med students. I have also worked with elementary and middle school students from underprivileged neighborhoods. I have also had experience teaching computer skills to students of all ages in Zambezi, Zambia, Africa.
