About Sofia

I am a history educator with a passion for getting students excited about social studies. I have cross curricula experience and a Master's degree in Teaching as well as graduate hours in history. I love teaching and I love igniting passion in student achievement. I am certified to teach in the state of Texas for Social Studies 7-12, but I have English experience as well.

I have been an educator for four years in Texas. I always wanted to be a teacher so that I could share my love for learning with others. I deeply care about equitable access to education and believe that individualized support is one of the best ways to ensure student success.

About the lesson

When starting work with a new student, I often do a diagnostic test to see what subjects they have room for growth in. Additionally, I get to know the student through learning games and conversation. Once a relationship is built, I can build out an individualized tutoring plan for the student that addresses areas of growth based on the student's learning style and abilities.

I have worked with students with various learning disabilities as well as students who are learning English. I have experience differentiating lesson materials to meet the needs of students.

I also have worked extensively with Gifted students and can create lessons that will challenge the smartest students to push their growth.

Ask questions! It is important to build a relationship with your teacher in the classroom.

Recently I had a former student reach out by sending me a history book for my classroom. She explained that because of my class, she had taken an interest in college level history classes and was making it her minor. Her excitement and passion really reminded me of how grateful I am to be in a profession where I can help others grow.
