About Will

I am a University of Cambridge educated Ph.D. student with a Master's in Education and a B.A. (hons) in Theology and Philsophy. For a number of years I was a social studies teacher in the UK, helping students attend top universities and teaching everything from 8th grade ethics to AP philosophy. Since then I have moved to the US to pursue a doctorate in education and currently teacher educators. As part of my Ph.D. I have developed my expertise in writing and am a published author at the academic level, as well as producing several blogs, a book and several op-ed pieces for online news outlets. Alongside my career as a teacher I have also tutored in different styles of writing.

I am passionate about learning and love my students to foster a desire for deep life-long learning. Essential knowledge and proficiency in content is important but so are the experiences of discovery, curiosity and research. I favor interactive, student-led learning and want students to develop as individual learners.

I started teaching younger aged students over summer break from the age of 16 but realised I wanted to pursue teaching as a career in my early 20s while completing my undergraduate degree. Since then I have devoted my life to teaching and becoming a teacher educator

I am currently completing the final stages of a Ph.D. in Education. I have a Master's in Education and a B.A. (hons) in Theology with Philosophy. Since completing my undergraduate degree I have worked as a teacher of social studies at the high school level for 5 years and taught social studies educators for the last 3 years at the college level. In this time I have also worked as a private tutor in social studies and English education, and consulted for a company that provides support to students wishing to attend Oxford, Cambridge and other prestigious UK universities.

About the lesson

To work with a new student I focus on three initial goals. 1. Who they are as a person and the way they like to think and learn 2. What previous understanding/experience they have in the given content area 3. Where they would like to go. From here we can tailor exactly what is needed and work together to achieve our goals.

I have worked with students from all socio-economic backgrounds including students with an extensive range of learning and behavioral difficulties. This includes students from public and private school backgrounds.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Teacher student relationships work best when they are real relationships. These could be founded on mutual interests, goals, likes, dislikes, means or ends. When approaching a teacher think about how you can both get the best out of your mutual arrangement.
