About Michael

I was born and raised in music. Coming from a family of music educators, I grew up learning and performing at venues across the world. My mother and brother are prominent fixtures in the world of the Suzuki method of teaching music, and my father is an accomplished bassist and orchestral conductor who has performed with some well-known musicians and groups including the Duke Ellington Band.

Music has been the major defining factor in my life for as far back as I can remember. I began playing the violin at the age of 3, and over the last 36 years have learned to play a variety of instruments, including viola, piano, electric bass, and harmonica, though my passion will always be with the guitar. I am also an accomplished performer, having been invited to audition for the Air Force Strings when I was still in high school, and I’ve performed in various pop and rock bands for over 20 years.

While I do not possess a music educators degree, I was immersed in music education for decades and have learned a vast array of teaching techniques through observation. For a brief time in my late 20s I taught guitar for Jammin' With You, a music education program based in Boston and New York, and used the opportunity to exercise what I’d learned from my parents and other teachers. What I found is that I had a knack for working with students of all ages and how to tailor learning plans for each individual student. I draw on my years of experience and knowledge to help students become better and more passionate players .
