I began playing the classical guitar over fifty years ago. Except for less than a year of formal instruction during the first year, I am self-taught. For several years, I performed at restaurants, clubs and ski resorts in California, Colorado and Utah, and occasionally on Public Television. Thirty years ago my profession (philosophy professor) obliged me to set the guitar aside. Five years ago, in retirement I resumed work with the guitar.

For two years, from 2013 to 2015, I took lessons from Glenn Tinturin. His acute ear and eye spotted errors and bad habits that I should have corrected decades ago. From these lessons, I collected dozens of pages of "repertory notes" and adopted a practice routine that has enormously improved my technique and interpretation.

Glenn is a patient and tactful teacher. I confess that after many years of successful performance experience, I was inclined to overlook my many limitations.
