About Jonathan

Every student's learning, lessons and assignments are individualized to their own talents and tastes. The pace and material is all determined on a student by student basis.

I have a degree in music from Bard College and have been teaching guitar for over 30 years, improving all the time on how to individualize teaching, practice and feedback methods to maximize student learning and enjoyment.

About the lesson

The first step is learning the student's musical likes, training (if any, including in public school music class) and overall goals.

Next we will work on giving the student a fundamental understanding of the basics regarding the instrument and the fundamental components of music and guitar playing. Reading music is NOT required but will be taught on a case by case basis depending on the student's goals.

After that, we will proceed on learning chords and/or single note (melody) playing and grow from there, simple songs to more challenging ones!
