About Caroline

I am a 4-time member of the GMEA District 6 Honor Bands, and a 3-time member of the GMEA All-State Bands, so I have proficient knowledge in how to play the flute musically. I am a college student and have been mentoring younger flute players since middle school. I enjoy teaching and served as flute section leader and woodwind captain in the marching band of my high school, Woodland High School. I currently play piccolo in Georgia Southern University's Southern Pride Marching Band.

I simply love playing the flute and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. It is fun for me to watch an individual grow in their musicianship and confidence.

I began teaching as a student mentor for other flautists in the 7th grade and have been providing mentorship to other musicians ever since.

I took private flute lessons myself weekly from June 2013 to the spring of 2019, taking some breaks during the fall for marching band season. I was first enrolled in a band class in the 6th grade, which was 8 years ago and have been playing the flute and piccolo in band classes ever since.

About the lesson

With a new student who has never played the flute before, the first lesson will consist of a basic introduction to the flute including how to put it together, how to take it apart, how to clean it, and how to make a sound. Basic fingerings may also be included. Students should purchase the Rubank Method: Flute or Piccolo book. For student who already knows how to play a few notes, we will begin with a few exercises from the Rubank book.

I have mostly worked with young students aged 11-16, but I am open to teaching other age ranges.
