About Maria

Hello, I am a skilled writer and enjoy the technical aspect of writing and what is involved in producing a finished piece of work. I initially entered college as an art major and while I was dedicated to making art, I soon learned that being able to communicate what I had created was even more important. As a side note, while in college I did also tutor students in elementary mathematics, and I found that I had a knack for meeting a student where they were stuck in order to be supportive and nonjudgemental. It was personally rewarding to see a student who felt defeated by their progress in their math homework soon being able to move forward with confidence and top grades. I tutored students who were from many different backgrounds for about three semesters which was unfortunately far too short. Returning to the topic of writing, as I progressed through college, I also developed something called a "voice" in my writing and I was encouraged by my professors to explore the power of this quality of writing. Today, long after college and a Bachelor's degree, I continue my writing as a special interest, and I strive to make it communication that is not only a shared experience but one that might leave the reader changed in some way. In more recent years I have become skilled as a good public speaker, which has not come just as an exercise in the college classroom but as the result of daily application in the work I do today. Being half Japanese and growing up in other countries throughout most of my K-12 years. I am sensitive to what it means to learn a new language and the time and effort that drives this process. I am happy to help anyone grasp the means to becoming fluent in English as well as becoming a better writer, and I believe that learning to speak informs learning to write and vice versa. Not only is oral and written English communication one of the most valued skills sought by many companies today, but it is certainly the hallmark of what it means to have a good education. I look forward to listening to how I may be of service and meet you where you are in your journey as a speaker and writer.
