About Shyann
I am a Macaulay Honors College at John Jay senior with a specialization in research methods and academic writing and English literature. I have contributed to my college's annual publication (John Jay's Finest) and was a featured staff writer for the international Black Women's Blueprint. Although literature is my discipline, my ultimate desire is to aid in increasing the literacy of our youth and offering a diverse selection of books that could help motivate more children to engage with literary studies.
I have been exposed to education and private tutoring as a teenager but I am beginning to expand my services.

I usually begin mentoring by establishing trust between my students and me. This involves getting to know their interests and using the information to better understand their learning type. For instance, if a student expresses an interest in music, I would use that interest to ease them into the subject they are struggling with (for music, students tend to understand lyrics more than they do poetry).
