About Benjamin

My name is Ben Baron, and I graduated with honors from Connecticut College with a double major in molecular biology and American studies. I am able to tutor history, writing, biology, and middle school math. I am looking for both remote and in-person teaching opportunities, and am eager to take on as many students as possible. I am able to make learning a fun, peaceful, and exciting experience. Every student is different, and it is my goal to adapt to each student in order to fulfill their needs and support them throughout their academic experience. I also plan on pursuing a career in education.

I have a diverse range of teaching experience. While in college I began teaching Mandarin Chinese lessons to 5th graders at a nearby elementary school, and I currently teach English to a Russian immigrant through Jewish Family and Children’s Services here in the Bay Area. I have also volunteered at 826 Valencia, an educational non-profit in the Mission District of San Francisco. While volunteering there I helped students with writing high school essays, algebra, and sometimes biology. During this past year I have been paid to tutor middle schoolers in algebra as well.

In college I helped a close friend who is on the autism spectrum and has ADHD, with his scientific course work, and was able to support him through his classes. I am comfortable teaching math and science to those who struggle with those topics. I also have experience helping my fellow biology classmates with essay-writing.

I have spent the last 10 months working as a cancer researcher at UCSF, so biology is one of my favorite topics. Because of this, I volunteered as mentor for the Jewish Family and Children’s Services YouthFirst Summer Bootcamp, which sought to train high schoolers in career-building and networking. I mentored a teen in biology and what it means to be a scientist.
