About Silver
As someone with ADHD, I've grown up having to find creative ways to keep my own attention and learn material, something that has helped me when tutoring. If the way we're learning the material isn't working, we'll find ways to engage creatively with things you do enjoy- whether you're a visual or audio learner or you're great at basketball.
I love teaching because I love getting creative and playing to my students' strengths. It's wonderful to watch a students' confidence increase as we find out what works for them together! It also made a big difference for me growing up to have a teacher who understood how to work with kids with ADHD, and this inspired me to start tutoring.
I'm a rising senior at Stanford studying international relations and comparative literature, so most of my training relates more to reading/English and history (I also study Spanish). I worked with a program called Ravenswood Reads for two quarters, where I worked with a second grader on strengthening reading and writing skills, and built lesson plans. In high school, I also tutored kindergartners and second graders in reading, and tutored a peer in Spanish.

First, I like to get to know a student, especially their strengths and interests. From there, I like to set goals together. What areas do we want to work on most? What would you like to get out of today's session? Usually I ask a student to read for me or show me how they would do a set of math problems (depending on what subject we're working on) so I can see how they do things. I encourage students to let me know when something isn't holding their attention or is getting confusing.
I have worked mostly with elementary school aged kids, and I've worked with multiple kids with ADHD. I've also tutored peers from time to time.
