About Kimberli
I spend most of my day researching and writing and I went through THREE degree programs to be able to do it properly! All my degrees are in Art History, and I was researching and writing about historical and contemporary art to make it seem relevant to the present day and for those who don't find it particularly interesting. I love reading and learning and using the written word to capture the essence of an idea and/or explain things clearly and concisely.
I have always tutored students in some capacity when I was an undergraduate and a graduate student and even got some tutoring myself...no shame in asking for help. I love working with students who are concerned about their writing, and enabling them to make sure they can convey what they want to say to a reader who may know a great deal of the topic or nothing at all.
I want my students to develop their skills and feel confident about their final product.
When I was graduate school I was a Teacher's Assistant, so had to teach a small seminar group of undergraduates and assist them with their papers and regular assignments. I did for over 3 years.
I have a BA, MA and PhD in Art History, so I have spent over a 10 years writing about the Humanities. I also work in my field so I still write published essays, articles and press releases.

I like to spend a few minutes getting to know them, what they need assistance with and what their goals of the tutoring are. I like to look at their assignments and deadlines so we can make a plan of action of how to break the project down into manageable parts so with each session something is being accomplished and students can celebrate small wins along the way to final product.
I have worked mostly with undergraduate students. Some have had incredibly writing skills and just wanted me to review what they were doing so they could feel confident about what they turned in. Others had never written a college essay before and were terrified of the process. In the latter case, we broke the assignment down into parts so the student would come to my office hours with a completed aspect, which we would review before going to the next level. It gave students a sense of accomplishment along the way and showed them how to make an essay assignment manageable in any class.
Go with your gut. Do you feel comfortable with the tutor? Are they asking you questions about what you want out of this arrangement? Talk to them about your goals so everyone is on the same page and can manage expections. At the end of the day everyone wants to succeed and feel good about the work they produced.
I am fond of street fairs. I love the opportunity to go outside in a neighborhood I know, or especially one I don't, and meet my neighbors and community members. I also love learning about local artisans and services of which I was not previously aware. I discover something new every time I go.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First thing, never feel shame about asking for help. Everyone needs help with something. Now, in my opinion students should think about what aspects of the assignment or topic are giving them trouble. Was it not explained clearly or in a way they could understand? Also, again what is your goal in talking to the teacher? If you ask a teacher for help, they will often respond with, "What's the issue?". If the student doesn't know what the problem is, how can you expect the teacher too?

I price by the hour. As I know the depth of situation we can plan out how long we think its going to take to finish an assignment.
