About Shamon

I am qualified to tutor many subjects that students may need several tutors for, however I am skilled in splitting time between subjects to optimize learning. I have high expectations for every student and my earnest hope for all is that they gain more than just homework help, but they learn how to learn.

My experience as a tutor has been dispersed across two elite tutoring companies: Varsity Tutors and Platinum Edge Tutoring. On Varsity Tutors, which is a mostly online platform, I only ever received in-person tutoring for the most rigorous subjects.

My students are entering elite high schools, Ivy League schools, and even becoming Tutors themselves. I am only as great as my students, and we can only be successful if the student, parent(s)/guardian(s), and I are all in sync.

I enjoy meeting families and helping alleviate stress caused from school. Stress can negatively impact the way students perceive their education. I love to create stress-free environments.

I have extensive training and experience from two other tutoring companies. I am also a student at New York University (NYU), where I study Teaching English 7-12 with a minor in Global and Urban Education Studies.

About the lesson

I always administer some form of a benchmark assessment to use as data along with school grades, if the parent chooses to provide. For test prep I give a shortened version of the test, for all others I enjoy reading student freewriting on any topic of their choosing: most students will choose to introduce themselves in a biographical manner.

I have worked with diverse groups of students. From working with one student at a time, or a roster of 30. My students come from different backgrounds: some from wealthy neighborhoods who attend affluent schools and others from areas with low-performing schools.
