About Alisa

I am very adaptable to all different skill levels, nationalities/accents, ages, and beyond. There's no need to be shy because I understand that learning a new language is difficult and I'm here for you every step of the way. Empathetic tutoring is what I'm here for. You will never get judged for making an English mistake, you'll just get caring help! We can work together to get you talking.

I have tutored students in ESL for three years and have TEFL certification. I have a Bachelor's degree from Anderson University, and many elementary education course credits as well. English was also my strong suit when I was in school!

I thrive helping students like you learn better English skills because I care about your well-being. I get very excited to see my students reaching their language goals. Learning a new language isn't easy, but once you achieve fluency, it will be worth it!

About the lesson

I first like to get to know my students and have them get to know me with a few introductory questions and/or warm-up exercises. I will usually ask the student how they'd prefer to learn that day at the beginning of each class; this usually wavers between working on my corrections given during a free conversation class, or using free, reliable online materials. If the student either doesn't have a preference or doesn't seem able to answer the question, I make the decision based on what I can gather from the student's personality type and skill level. I work with beginner level students on their most glaring mistakes until they're resolved and then begin correcting a wider range of errors as our lessons continue. With more advanced student I will help them correct every mistake made during a lesson. Repetition and practice make perfect, which is why having students return to my classes, while difficult, will prove fruitful for them.

For my 30th birthday, I went to Cedar Pointe amusement park with my friend. She bought us fast passes, which allowed us to skip to the very front of the lines to ride the roller coasters there. I love roller coasters, so it was a blast! We also spent an hour or so at the lake, and that was very relaxing.
