About Mingyang

Having endured the stress of college applications and standardized testing, I can relate to students going through the same process. I develop a personalized study plan for each student according to their current score/future goal and amount of time he/she has until the test date. I can also do weekly or monthly check-ins with parents upon request.

I have a 1570 (790 Math, 780 Verbal) on the new SAT and a 35 on the ACT. I have already tutored 10+ students for over a year, all of whom had varying scores when we first started.

I love working with peers and seeing them achieve their dreams.

I am currently a third year student at Vanderbilt University double majoring in Cell & Molecular Biology and Medicine, Health, & Society. Having been through the college application process myself recently, I understand the stress that many students experience. I have taken a variety of SAT/ACT prep courses in high school, and have often used a combination of these methods in my own teaching. I have over a year of experience tutoring high school students in all subjects of the SAT/ACT and have seen 100-200+ score improvements. I believe that being younger gives me a level of relatability to the students.

About the lesson

I will first let them do a practice test, or at least a sample set of questions, to get a solid estimate of their current score. I will then ask them what their ultimate goal is. Using this information, I will develop a detailed study plan unique to each student that I will adjust as we go along.

I tutored one student in the past whose dream school was Baylor University, which has an average SAT score of about 1200-1300. She was in the 1000-1100 range when we first started together. However, through months of hard work and drilling, she eventually brought her score up to Baylor's average, and got accepted there in the spring.
