About Lacey

I have been a high school English teacher in Katy ISD since 2010. From 2010-2011 I taught English 1 and 2 and Creative Writing, from 2011-2013 I taught English 3 (American Literature) and from 2013- 2022 I taught English 4 (British Literature). I was the lead English 4 teacher and also served on the curriculum writing team for the school district.

I have loved reading since I was in school myself and I have always had a knack for writing; therefore, when I graduated from college with a degree in Secondary Education, I knew I wanted to take those passions to the classroom. I am certified in English Language Arts 8-12 and ESL K-12. But it isn't just the subject of English itself that I love---it's the students. I love helping students either foster their love for reading and/or writing, or improve their skills in those particular areas and beyond.

I went into college in 2005 knowing that I wanted a career in secondary education and knowing that once I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in education in 2009 that I wanted to teach high school English.

I have 13 years of experience as a high school English teacher, and I am certified in English Language Arts for grades 8-12 and ESL grades K-12.

While I am new to private tutoring, I have been a classroom educator for 13 years. Working with new students is something I am more than familiar with as I have done it  every year of my career when August comes around and a new school year begins. The process will differ from meeting my new students in a classroom, but the approach will be the same. I will learn what your specific needs are, determine what I can do to help facilitate those needs, and then we will set up a time to meet in person, over the phone or through FaceTime and/or Zoom to discuss how we will proceed going forward.

In my 13 years as an educator, I worked with every different type of learner. Throughout those years I taught over 2,000 students, each with individual learning styles and specific needs. I also worked with many students with learning disabilities, special needs and English as a second language backgrounds.

My advice to any student looking for some extra help in the area of English would be to focus on the biggest struggle(s) in that subject area, figure out specifically what their needs are and communicate those needs clearly and up front. For example, if a student does fairly well in the subject in school but is having a hard time writing college application essays, be specific about that need and determine what exactly is causing the struggle. Is it the opening line? Is it analyzing what the prompt is asking? Is it simply needing someone to read over it for grammar help/revisions? Really evaluate what you are looking to achieve by working with a tutor.

A recent event that I am fond of was taking my oldest son to meet his new first grade teacher and also a few days later, walking him to class on his first day of school. My son has a joy for learning and school that is unmatched, and watching his face light up, rather than wince in fear, as he faced the newness of his journey ahead genuinely warmed my heart and gave me so much joy and pride-- not just as his mother, but as someone who has worked in education for so long.
