About Tippany

Reading and Writing are some of my favorite things in the world. I adore helping students learn to express themselves through an essay, impress college admission directors through an interview, or learn something about the universe through the words of another. Learning the art of English is a student's best way to see the world through countless perspectives.

I am new to tutoring but am endlessly familiar with the world of education. I am a licensed attorney with an affinity for fiction and self-reflective books. I spent three years obtaining my law degree which meant I spent three years honing my pursuasive writing techniques as well as perfecting my public speaking skills.

I am not a certified educator. In college I assisted in proofreading essays and final papers for my fellow classmates. In law school, I worked closely with a professor as he wrote a paper regarding how a workplace environment impacts employees and productiveness. While in high school, I spent a semester shadowing a freshman english teacher and was able to instruct a class on To Kill a Mockingbird.

I by no means am a replacement to professional educators but I am qualified to help students learn about literary analysis or help build their confidence in public speaking.

About the lesson

I like to learn about the student themselves first and determine what assumptions the student has about English. For example, I like to know whether a student finds this subject difficult or boring.

Once I determine the sudent's stance toward this particular area, I will work with them through some previous assignments where they received negative feedback to try to pinpoint the issue.

At that point, I will begin to work with the student in the particular area in which they struggle. I will strive to build the student's confidence in the subject. My goal is not to make them love the subject but rather to help build a bridge between them and the subject to help with their understanding. If they fall in love with English along the way, I would be perfectly happy with that collateral result as well.
