About Cortland

I am an energetic new teacher looking to help students outside the classroom to hone their skills in writing and comprehending works of literature.

I received my Bachelor’s in English Literature from UMASS Lowell. I am certified to teach English 8-12 in Massachusetts. I am also SEI certified through Framingham State.

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in high school. It has been a long journey, with many detours, but I finally finished all my schooling and got into a school system, and I can tell that teaching is where I am supposed to be.

I am currently working in a high school as a full time teacher, so I deal with lesson planning and with students everything day.

About the lesson

I like to meet with the student and get to know their interests. I like to discuss their goals and how hard they are willing to work to get there. I also like to discuss how they feel they learn best, so that I can tailor my planning to help them learn their best way.

I have worked with mainly Special Education students. Students with learning disabilities, or who take a little more time to understand something.

Look for a teacher who will challenge you, and make you show evidence for you thinking. They should not tell you that you are wrong in your thinking, but they should make you prove why you think you are right.

I had a student give me picture they painted over vacation because they have appreciated me being willing to talk to them about some rough times they have recently gone through.
