About Katie

Hello! My name is Katie, and I have a passion for English, French, and theatre. I am an English major in my senior year at Augsburg University. I have an extensive background in English education at all levels and in childhood development at the elementary age. If you decide that I am the right tutor for you or your child, I guarantee that my services will create an environment where learning can thrive.

I care deeply about the personal and academic success of each of my students. I use professional techniques to ensure a positive learning experience where growth abounds!

I have worked at Eden Prairie High School as an English substitute teacher for two years.

I have taught a variety of summer school classes through Eden Prairie Schools for two years.

I have worked with children ages three to fourteen consistently for five years.

Both of my parents are teachers, and I always wanted to be just like them! I started doing in-classroom work in college which hooked me. I immediately took to working with students encouraging growth and discovery!

I am studying English, theatre, and French at Augsburg University. I have been working with children in educational settings for four years now, and I feel quite confident in my ability to teach subject material to any student.

About the lesson

I typically start off with a shorter session in which I speak with the student about their needs and goals. I will then evaluate from our conversation how to best proceed. I want to make sure that my students feel comfortable around me, so some "getting to know you" is highly beneficial.

I have worked with students ages four through fourteen. Many are struggling to keep up with their peers in their reading and writing or are frustrated with school in general. Each one of them has been delightful in their own ways.

I recently worked with children at an elementary school. One of the students had difficulty writing her name. We practiced and practiced one day until she wanted to give up. I told her that no one is perfect on the first try and that practice makes perfect. She came back the next morning with a large grin on her face and a piece of paper in her hand. She unfolded it and showed me her name spelled with no mistakes! Seeing the pride in her eyes was very rewarding.
