About Danielle
Hello!
My name is Danielle Gibson and I wanted to tell you about my personal teaching philosophies, goals, and my past experiences.
All students can learn and want to learn. I believe my role as an educator and mentor is to meet students where they are and then encourage and nurture them through a lifelong education in order to move them forward through life. Through hands-on activities, a growth mindset, and a good teacher-to-student relationship, I hope to allow students to express themselves creatively and build solid knowledge based on our experiences together.
I am currently entering my junior year at Millikin University. I am majoring in Elementary Education and receiving an endorsement in Special Education. I have been through eight internships so far in my college career. In those internships, I have worked with students that have learning disabilities, in resource rooms, and in full classrooms with students in grades 1-4.

I am a very caring person! I love to help people in need and I thought why not help every one of my students grow not only in their education but as individual people. I love to see that "ah ha" moment in their eyes and I also love to see each and every one of my students grows their mindsets from the beginning of our time together to the end. I could not see myself pursuing any other career besides teaching, it just resonates with who I am and what I value in my life.
I am currently a student at Millikin University majoring in Elementary Education and receiving an endorsement in Special Education.
I am a legally mandated reported and have received a level one credential to work with children. I have been in 8 internships working with students in resource rooms, students with learning disabilities, and grades from 1-4.

When I meet a student for the first time there are a series of things I like to do. First, I will introduce myself to the student and to their guardian. Then I will do some one-on-one work with the student. In this one-on-one work, I will find how the student learns best, what the student's general needs are to be successful in our session(s), and what are some of their personal interest or hobbies outside of school.
After finishing our one-on-one session I will then start introducing learning materials to gauge what the students learning abilities are and how I can work to help them continue to improve for each session. I will normally end each session with a fun educational game that is based on the subject I am tutoring the student on to end with a fun and positive note for the session.
I have worked with students who have a learning disability, students in a recourse room, and in a general education classroom with grades 1-4.
I would tell the student that they need to find a teacher who is going to meet them where they are at in their educational journey. If a teacher is trying to start at a level the student is not at and is not willing to differentiate and accommodate the students learning needs and learning style then that teacher is not for them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
