About Brian
Hello! I am new to this website (as of 2023) but spent much of my time in college helping students with various aspects of learning English.
I truly enjoy helping students determine their academic and creative goals, and then take an approach that encompasses how to perform well on the immediate task, but also how to approach future assignments with a combination of skills that increase the quality of work the student produces, in line with their own goals, whether they are working on class assignments, or simply skill improvement.
Depending on the age and needs of a student, I will vary my approaches, so as to create an environment that is most conducive to reaching our goals. A child learning to read may benefit most from drawing comparisons and references to their favorite bedtime stories. An older child who is in a structured setting at school may benefit from a more relaxed and individually encouraging environment where we can focus on individual aspects they want to spend time improving on. An adult may do best with online tutoring due to their busy schedule, but may have more specific skills to master.
Tutoring is a great way for me to connect with other people while providing a source of confidence and direction for students who can often feel unsure of their approach, or uncomfortable with the complex and challenging tasks of learning language, or of writing original works, writing literary criticisms and interpretations of existing literary works.
