About Ki

Teaching makes me happy!

I've been teaching and mentoring in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools for over 15 years.

I have a business Bachelors degree, nearly complete Education degree, and 150 hour TEFL certification.

I worked as a Native English Teacher in South Korea, from 2017 to 2019. I planned and taught lesson plans for grades 1-6, in 3 elementary schools.

I presented two 50 minute lectures on Classroom Management and Planning Effective After School and Camp Classes, increased fluency / reading levels with reading clubs and letter recognition up to 100% with fun English games, and have received high 90% scores and nearly 100 five-star reviews for English tutoring.

I started reading to fellow students in elementary school, as a part of the Gifted program, mentored students in peer mediation in middle school, and advised students for college applications in high school. I then pursued an education degree and taught English in South Korea for 2 years.

About the lesson

I like to make the student feel comfortable first. I encourage them to slow down and not be nervous, then I ask them to give a simple introduction of their name, age, and any likes.

I get to assess their overall comprehension of my request, their ability to express their thoughts, and their pronunciation; while small-talking to help them feel at ease.

In America: I've worked with students in grades Pre-K-Kindergarten, grades 4/5, adult high ages 17-30.

In South Korea (ESL): grades 1-6

Online English teaching: ages 4-50+

In W. Africa: All-Subjects; Western curriculum: grades 4/5

Make sure that the teacher is a good listener, patient, kind, and flexible to your needs and learning style.

I just completed a lesson with a person aged 40 who enrolled with me as a beginner. He was nervous and not very confident. He started with a 15 minute assessment, rebooked with me a few days later for a 20 minute lesson, then extended the lesson to 40 minutes as we progressed.

His confidence came out and he improved in just one lesson to Intermediate Low. (I believe he is much higher than that, but I am proud that he improved so quickly and felt good by the end of our lesson.)
