About Nandan

I've worked with many students from various backgrounds over the last 7 years in everything from basic Algebra to SAT/ACT Prep. With that experience, I pride myself on remaining flexible in the tutoring process so that any student can master the material and acquire the confidence to approach future challenges with a track record of improvement.

Being a part of the journey students undergo to discover their potential is a reward unlike any other. I believe that is the true purpose of this profession. With every lesson, I've helped my students step-by-step to achieve their academic goals despite any challenges they may face.

After all, we can be better tomorrow than we are today.

A student a grade below me needed help with his chemistry homework. He worked hard with my guidance and got an A on both the assignment and a pop quiz. Afterward, his mom offered to pay me for regular lessons, and the rest is history!

There are 3 things I need from a new student before I can help them. Their current competency with the material, a measure of how confident they feel currently in the subject area, and how quickly they'd like to get to a certain "level".

With that intake information, we can make a lesson plan, establish a timeline, and list clear expectations for the student. You can find more information about these questions every student should ask themselves below.

I've worked with students in the 7th grade in Geometry up to high schoolers with SAT/ACT prep and beyond.
Most of my students had little to no competency in their subjects and needed lessons over an extended period of 4-12 months. Afterward, seeing improvement in the areas, they struggled in, some of them choose to stay on an as-needed basis for most any subject they may take in the future.

If a teacher doesn't know your level of mastery, where you want to go, and how you feel about the material, they may only see a fraction of the picture needed to help you in any subject.
In any situation, the teacher and student both share the responsibility of open communication in order to build a productive rapport and reach the student's goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Where am I in terms of the class syllabus, standardized test outline, or general subject area?
E.g., "I did poorly on the midterm and so need to work on both the upcoming material for future tests and then questions I missed before the final.", "I struggle with Linear Functions, so I need to learn them before any Pre-Calculus", etc.

What exactly am I seeking to achieve or improve? To what level?
E.g., "B or better in my English class", ">1300 on the SAT", "Improve on the Science section of the ACT", etc.

How long do I have to reach my goal?
E.g., "My final is in a month.", "3 months till my SATs", "This whole summer before I enter high school", etc.

Write down your needs and concerns with specifics, and then approach your teacher upfront and honestly. If they can't address those needs, they may not be the best match for you through no fault of your own.
