About Myka

My name is Myka and I am currently in my final year studying Transpersonal Art Therapy in Naropas Graduate program. I received my Bachelors in Fine Arts from Western Washington University.

I have taught art in classrooms over 6 years in relationship based education environments.

I am inspired by attuning to my students artists gifts, and goals in their creative practice. I believe art should be playful and fun. It is my passion to feed my students creative potential as well as bringing in an element of mindfulness and self reflection.

I have worked with all mediums and am flexible in what types of materials I can bring, as well as the direction our classes can take as it is my intention to meet your child where they are and help them to find what inspires them most.

Art is my passion in all of its forms. I am a performer, dancer, musician, and creator in many forms. I believe creativity to be a path to healing, and self growth and awareness.

It is my passion to nurture this in others and help them create projects that make their heart sing. :)

In my final year at Naropa earning my Transpersonal Art Therapy Masters Degree.

I recieved my Bachelors of Fine Arts at Western Washington University where I was the lead teacher and program coordinator for 4 years at an Afterschool Arts and Preschool program.

I have been a nanny for 10+ years and we would art and create and explore most of our time together.
I have also worked for 2 seasons as a Birthday entertainer, Balloon twisting and facepainting party fairy.
(most of my students knew me as a fairy teacher, and once I am complete with my degree I plan to be a fairy art therapist for the littles)

About the lesson

With new students, I like to offer high quality art materials and freedom to explore within the medium a variety of techniques until we collaboratively find their strengths. From there I intend to build their self esteem in creating in this style. From here we will develop and implement goals for longer projects that allow planning and drafting out ideas for how they can sustain engagement and create projects they are proud of.
