About Jessica

I have been dancing myself for 21 years and have been teaching for 5. I am classically trained in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, and contemporary dance.

In my time as a dancer, I performed in 15 recitals, competed for 10 years, and was a member of the Philadelphia Soul Junior Dance Team.

As a teacher, I have choreographed several successful competition dances as well as recital pieces in all genres. I have taken classes of children with no fundamental background and made them technically sound in a short period of time.

I love teaching because I love watching my students grow. I love seeing the looks on their faces when they accomplish something they couldn't before. I love seeing that they are enjoying my teaching as much as I enjoy their dancing and learning.

I was looking for something to do while in college to make some extra money and stay overly involved in dance.

I have trained for 21 years and was a dance minor in college.

About the lesson

My typical process would involve starting with a basic warmup for the specific style of dance. From there, I would evaluate the level of comprehension based on understanding of terminology and correct execution. That will show the level of difficulty the class/choreography can be and I will go from there. I have several different lesson plans in my repertoire for all different age and advance level combinations.

I have worked with all ages from 18 months to 18 years.

Work with someone who understands you and is willing to have some give and take. For example, I like my students to work hard. If I am giving you my time/attention/focus/work, I expect you to give me your time/attention/focus/work. I like to push my students to be their best but I also understand that everyone is different. Find a teacher that understands you.

Details

Typically, for a private lesson, I would charge $50 for an hour. For choreography $250, then the $50/ hour charge. For a regular class that would be based on the studio's going rate.
