About Coby

We are passionate about dance! We treat all dancers equally - whether they come to class once a week or everyday, each dancer is special & we want them to walk away with apositive attitude about the arts as well as feeling a sense of accomplishment. I have had a studio in the Atlanta area for 40 years. We are in our new location at the Bhindi Center across from N. DeKalb Shopping Center. Moving to music - watching a dancer figuring it out - having fun! Dance is my passion! It is more than a career. I have experienced so many aspects of theater & dance from Broadway to Pre-School. Come check us out & see what we have to offer!

I started teaching at a very young age (early teens), but choreography has been apart of my life for much longer. My first attempt was at the Alliance Theater with Walter Roberts' - The Nightingale. (I was nine years old & no one ever told me I couldn't do it!) So I choregraphed my first piece at age nine. You could say I got an interest & have continued ever since. FYI: Walter Roberts' daughter is Julia Roberts)

I have taught all styles of dance for over 40 years. My "fav" is musical theater - I have appeared on B'way with Carol Channing in "Hello Dolly!" & toured with the show. I have a performing company which gives dancers different performance opportunities not only here in Atlanta, but across the US & Europe. I was honored to be an assistant choreographer with the '96 Olympics. I have done summerstock & dinner theaters as well as community theater. I try to instill a love for theater while teaching them what to expect if they decide to pursue a career in the arts.

About the lesson

We divide classes by age & ability levels. Dancers will feel more confident when they are with their peers. Each dancer is an individual. And we treat them that way. We do not lump dancers into a group - they are unique individuals & need to treated as such.

I work with all types of students - my joy is watching a student who is trying to figure a step out & then they get it! Teaching & working with students of all ages is what I do - my youngest at the studio is 3 - my oldest is in her 90's.

We do private lessons - you must find the teacher that gives you what you need for your particular dance style. However, I feel classroom experience is invaluable - private lessons work, but it is always best to get into a class so you can watch other dancers & learn not only from the teacher, but from watching others.

We are always doing special events - two years ago, we became a Hope Studio with Dancers Against Cancer. We did benefit performances to donate to that cause. One of our students was diagnosed with cancer at age 11. It brought reality to the fact that we are so lucky to have children who are strong & healthy - we want to continue our program: KIDS4KIDS. These dancers perform for the good of others!
